Into The Forest trailer sees Ellen Page, Evan Rachel Wood face the apocalypse

Here’s the first official trailer for Into The Forest, a Canadian film starring Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood as sisters fighting to survive at the end of the world. Written and directed by Patricia Rozema, Into The Forest is an adaptation of Jean Hegland’s novel of the same title. The trailer lacks the usual explosions and chaos of post-apocalyptic thrillers. It looks like Into The Forest is going with a more slow-burning and quiet take on the end of the world, focusing on the isolation and desperation it brings.

Sisters Nell (Page) and Eva (Wood) live in a small cabin in an old forest, which also seems like the perfect setup for a horror movie, but again, Into The Forest resembles an intimate character drama rather than a more over-the-top genre film. The sisters try to fend off intruders, disease, and starvation, having only each other in the desolate and under-resourced world they live in. Max Minghella, Callum Keith Rennie, Michael Eklund, and Wendy Crewson also star, although it looks like the bulk of the film will just focus on the sisters.

Page recently concluded the first season of her Viceland docuseries Gaycation, which was renewed for a second season today. She will not be reprising her role of Kitty Pryde in a certain other apocalyptic movie hitting theaters this summer. Wood stars in the upcoming HBO series Westwood, which recently resumed production after a two-month hiatus. The project marks Wood’s return to HBO after having starred in True Blood from 2009 to 2011.

Into The Forest premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and will be released in theaters and VOD this summer.
