Into The Spider-Verse will head back into IMAX theaters this weekend
For everything the Oscars got wrong this year, those old white dudes (okay, mostly old white dudes) got at least a few things right–including giving the award for Best Animated Film to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. That little gold statue helped the wildly inventive animated flick featuring multiple Spider-Men (and women and pigs and a Nic Cage) cement its status as one of the greatest films of 2018. And according to co-director Rodney Rothman, Sony is spider-piggy-backing off of that win by re-releasing Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse in theaters this weekend:
As Rothman notes in his adorably stoked tweet, that includes IMAX theaters, so if you didn’t get a chance to experience the vibrant animation of Into The Spider-Verse on the biggest and boldest screen imaginable, now’s your chance to do just that.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was co-directed by Rothman with Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey from a screenplay by Rothman and Phil Lord–who co-produced the film with collaborator Chris Miller. With the voices of Shameik Moore (Miles Morales), Jake Johnson (Peter Parker), Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy), Nicolas Cage (Spider-Man Noir), and John Mulaney (Peter Porker, aka Spider-Pig), and featuring truly impressive animated visuals, Into The Spider-Verse grossed $185 million at the domestic box office during its initial run. If you don’t have a chance to see it in theaters this weekend, you’ll be able to buy Into The Spider-Verse on Blu-ray and DVD on March 19.
