Amazon renews Invincible, Hazbin Hotel, and, against all odds, the Sausage Party show

Seth Rogen had a special message for those who didn't enjoy the first season of the Sausage Party: Foodtopia: "You're not going to like this one, either."

Amazon renews Invincible, Hazbin Hotel, and, against all odds, the Sausage Party show

Today, in “Well, you have to keep Seth Rogen happy somehow” news: Amazon announced at Comic-Con today that it’s renewing pretty much every show on its slate of adult-aimed animated properties, including Hazbin HotelInvincible, and… Sausage Party: Foodtopia.

That latter one got a genuine note of surprise from us today, given that the series (based off Rogen’s 2016 film) has gotten pretty viciously savaged by critics in the two weeks since it debuted on the service. That being said, Rogen clearly enjoys the hell out of it, and he’s one of Amazon’s biggest entertainment money makers at the moment—between Invincible and the steadily expanding The Boys universe—so… maybe he gets an extra season of sexually explicit food violence, huh? (In the video announcing the news, Rogen cheerfully joked a bit about the reception, saying, “If you did not like season 1, go fuck yourself. You are not going to like this one either.”)

The other renewals are a bit less of a shock, even though Invincible‘s fourth-season renewal comes way ahead of its third season even debuting. (Expected to happen some time next year.) Even so, the superhero series, based on the comics written by Robert Kirkman, has been well-received, as Amazon continues to carve out an odd little niche for itself in the “Superheroes who get a lot of blood on themselves” streamer. Hazbin Hotel‘s renewal, meanwhile, will presumably come as a joy for fans of the animated series, which started life as a YouTube project from creator Vivienne Medrano. The series, which debuted its first full season back in January of this year, stars Erika Henningsen as a princess of Hell running a hotel designed to rehabilitate sinners. (Also, there’s lots of singing and dark comedy, with Stephanie Beatriz, Alex Brightman, and Keith David all part of the show’s main cast.)

Say what you like about any individual project from this mix of shows: It’s nice to see a streamer throwing support behind its animation department for once.
