Ira Glass, Eugene Mirman, and Yo La Tengo ring in Christmas with "Toymageddon"
2776 is an upcoming comedy and music album curated by Rob Kutner, Joel Levinson, and Stephen Levinson that imagines past, present, and future historical events from the first millennium of American history, a concept that leads to many fanciful and imaginative places. All proceeds go to OneKid OneWorld, and the album’s lineup includes Will Forte, Ed Helms, Aimee Mann, Andrew W.K., Robert Smigel, Martha Plimpton, Paul F. Tompkins, and David Wain and Scott Aukerman as a “Zombie Boy Band.”
The video for first single “Toymageddon” features Yo La Tengo playing cardboard instruments and telling the story of robots taking over the world. This American Life host Ira Glass stars as Santa Claus, while Eugene Mirman plays a robot overlord usurping Santa and bringing everyone annihilation for Christmas. The machines take over by using mechanical toys as soldiers, but they spare a short list of humans like Bill Hasbro, Harold Mattel, and toy repairmen. (“Checking it twice was irrelevant; we are infallible.”) "Toymaggedon" is nigh, indeed.
