As pirated copies of 300 reportedly trickle their way into Iran, hatred for the film's portrayal of beastly Persian villains is spreading among Iran's government and citizens. Radar quotes the Tehran Times as saying: "No doubt it is hard for the hegemonic powers to see a firm, religious Iran that has pricked their bubbles." (Never mind that Iran used to be a hegemonic power.) The official response from the filmmakers is that the film's not meant to be an accurate depiction of history.
