The story: Tony Stark is suffering panic attacks after the events of The Avengers, and building dozens of suits to cope with the anxiety and fear. A new terrorist called the Mandarin is staging bombings, including one that injures Tony’s friend Happy. The Mandarin, along with a scientist named Aldrich Killian, are developing a program called Extremis, that turns people into living weapons, able to regrow limbs and heal themselves, as long as they control it with drugs. Tony and Col. James Rhodes track down the Mandarin, who’s revealed to be an actor, with Killian actually running the terrorist group as a means of consolidating power. He captures both Pepper and the U.S. president, injecting Pepper with Extremis. Tony and Rhodes summon all the Iron Man suits to take out Killian’s men, save Pepper and the president, and finally kill Killian. (Pepper delivers the coup de grace.)
