Like its Thursday-night companion, Hannibal (which returns for a third season next week), Aquarius takes a big risk with its central antagonist, setting him up as a charismatic operator with good taste and artistic ambition. Unlike Hannibal Lecter, however, Charles Manson is a real person who committed real murders, so Aquarius is on shakier ground there.
