Is this the real life, or did someone just pull off one of the best "Bohemian Rhapsody" jokes ever?
Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one those songs that seems to bypass taste entirely; even if your brain is wired to recognize that the 1975 hit single is bombastic, overblown and goofy, it doesn’t matter, because the rest of your head is already banging along while Freddie Mercury does the Fandango.
Still, there’s liking “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and then there’s the glorious monster that Hadie Mart, a.k.a. @CostcoRiceBag, has transformed their Twitter timeline into over the last three months. We don’t want to ruin the surprise, so just click over to Mart’s account and follow the instructions, starting from here:
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time an internet comic has gone to these kinds of lengths; last year, we noted when actor Gary Kelly did something very similar for Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.” But we have to give points to Mart, both because “Bohemian Rhapsody” is objectively the better song—sorry, sk8ter bois—and because its esoteric lyrics inflict a significantly higher degree of difficulty for successfully hiding this kind of stunt. Although, admittedly, Mart kind of cheated to get a few of these in:
But how the hell else are you supposed to tweet about “Bismillah” and “Galileo” without just giving up the game? In any case, congratulations are in order: Good job, @CostcoRiceBag; you thoroughly deserve whatever joke you end up making about directing people to your Soundcloud page.
