Issa Rae tackles a new bout of relationship and career problems in Insecure’s season 3

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, August 12. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Insecure (HBO, 10:30 p.m.): As season three of Issa Rae’s autobiographical sitcom dawns, Issa is living on Daniel’s couch after her break-up with Lawrence—supposedly platonically, but given the chemistry of these past lovers, a hookup seems inevitable. Plus, she may be there for awhile, as her finances are not in the greatest shape. Meanwhile, Molly’s new job at a black-owned law firm may not be the dream gig she was hoping for. Ashley Ray-Harris is on board again for weekly reviews.

Regular coverage

The Affair (Showtime, 9 p.m.)
Sharp Objects (HBO, 9 p.m.)
Who Is America? (Showtime, 10 p.m.)
Preacher (AMC, 10 p.m.)

Wild card

[pm_embed_youtube id=’PLO79iP69FaZP1x9IDtmJlZDApO6Vu8qh8′ type=’playlist’]Ballers: (HBO, 10 p.m.): He’s in so many movies that you can almost forget he also has a TV show, but tonight Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returns for season four of Ballers. This season, Johnson’s Spencer Strasmore looks ready to tackle every injustice and controversy in the world of sports (possibly even anthem-kneeling). The trailer boasts that Spencer “is single-handedly changing the face of athletics,” while the mega-mentor appears to be destroying the village in order to save it: “I’m gonna take it all down, brick by brick.” Hey, if anyone can pull that off, it’s The Rock.
