It looks like someone from Rogue One will pop up on Star Wars Rebels

(Thanks to the magic of prequels, the following story does not actually contain any spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, it may contain a spoiler for the Star Wars Rebels TV show, so consider this a warning.)

Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels cartoon has done a good job embracing the larger Star Wars universe and occasionally tying up plot points from the prequel movies or the Clone Wars TV show, whether it’s a pair of famous droids making an appearance or finally giving Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker a chance to reconnect. With a new movie in theaters that takes place just a few years after the show, though, Rebels now has a bunch of new stuff it can reference or foreshadow without disrupting the canon at all.

In fact, according to some Bothan spies, an actual character from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story might be visiting Rebels at some point when it returns for new episodes early next year. As reported by io9, some Star Wars fans on Twitter recently shared a photo of a poster found in Toys “R” Us that teases an appearance from Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera:

The character actually made his debut on The Clone Wars, so this would be a return to the small-screen for him. Also, since Rebels happens before Rogue One, it should give us a chance to discover what he was up to in the few decades between the old cartoon and the new movie. Lucasfilm and Disney XD haven’t made any official announcements about this (including about whether or not Whitaker would play him), so we don’t know when this will happen—or if it will happen, since this could be an elaborate fake—but we’ll probably know more next month.
