It looks like Vampire Weekend will actually release something soon
It’s been five years since Vampire Weekend released Modern Vampires Of The City, but frontman Ezra Koenig might finally be ready to release something other than the Netflix anime he made with Jaden Smith. As reported by DIY, Vampire Weekend has just signed a new record deal with Sony, and the company has announced that it will now be releasing a “noteworthy project” before the end of September—strongly implying that we’ll be getting something new from Vampire Weekend within the next two months. DIY also notes that the band is headlining the End Of The Road festival on August 30, which also suggests that Vampire Weekend has some new tunes to show off.
Our only request is that this new album features a full version of the Seinfeld-based “Imagine” parody that Koenig dreamed up on his Time Crisis show a couple years ago. Vampire Weekend tends to make dreamy, smarty-pants pop jams, but there’s room in every band’s catalog for a parody song or two.
