It’s a pivotal Game Of Thrones, but we just want to talk about that flaming sword

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, August 20. All times are Eastern. Only one sword is on fire—that we know of.

Game Of Thrones (HBO, 9 p.m.): The super-sized, penultimate episode of Game Of Thrones’ seventh season promises more: More minutes (15 of them, to be exact), more dragons, more of The Night King, more messing with your DVR settings for the rest of HBO’s Sunday-night lineup, and more of Beric Dondarrion wielding a goddamn sword of flame. Is this the same flaming sword with which Beric fought Sandor Clegane in season three, a fearsome weapon that was especially scary to the pyrophobic younger Clegane brother? (Though he probably wound up the most scared when Beric sprung back to life after taking a nasty chop to the left shoulder from The Hound.) Is it “Lightbringer,” the storied weapon of Azor Ahai that Stannis Baratheon attempted to call upon with the help of Melisandre and the Lord Of Light? Or is it just the type of flashy magical item that has long fascinated fantasy fans, inspiring countless study hall doodles and airbrushed van murals? We won’t know until tonight, when Myles McNutt and Ali Barthwell bring some light to Jon Snow’s audacious challenge to the army of the dead.

Regular coverage

Twin Peaks (Showtime, 8 p.m.)
Rick And Morty (Adult Swim, 10 p.m.)
The Strain (FX, 10 p.m.)
Insecure (HBO, 10:45 p.m.)

Wild card

The Nineties (CNN, 9 p.m.): CNN’s latest look at a decade that was wraps up with a look back at the music of the 1990s. You know what ’90s music didn’t have enough of? The unbeatable combination of combustion and bladed weapons.
