It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FXX, 10 p.m.): There are shows one watches every week, like clockwork—live, if possible; soon after, if not. Appointment viewing, if you will. No less valuable, however, are the shows you watch at a more lackadaisical pace but which occasionally vault straight to the top of the must-watch list, by virtue of one small, delicious detail. Exhibit A: Whatever the hell is going on with Danny DeVito’s wig in the photo above. What is that glorious thing? Why is Frank wearing it? Is it supposed to be his real hair? It looks so soft! Why? How? We have to know.
The description for “The Gang Does A Clip Show” is promising, too—“With nothing to do while their phones update to the latest software, the gang decides to reminisce on old times. As everyone misremembers events from their past, the gang’s current reality becomes altered”—but if we’re honest, It’s Always Sunny had us at the first glimpse of that magnificent rug. Dennis Perkins, as always, stands ready to pay tribute to true beauty, wherever it might be found.

Neanderthal (PBS, 10p.m.): Ella Al-Shamahi, a luminary in the realm of Neanderthal research, wanted to create a “scientifically accurate 3D Neanderthal,” so she did the only logical thing: She called Andy Serkis. Luckily, he wants it too, the precious… knowledge of how the extinct subspecies looked and moved. This is episode one of the two-part documentary, which first aired on BBC Two in the U.K. earlier this year.
