It’s Chris Pine versus the ocean in Disney’s trailer for The Finest Hours

Someone out there obviously got a little impatient waiting for the sequel to The Perfect Storm, because that’s more or less what this trailer for the upcoming Disney film The Finest Hours looks like. The film tells the tale (“Based on a true story,” so you know it’s true) of a 1952 storm that ripped a T-2 oil tanker in half with more than 30 men stuck inside, led by a struggling first assistant engineer (played here by Affleck the younger, Casey). In a perilous rescue effort, Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine, doing a movie-Boston accent) heads out in a wooden lifeboat to try to bring back the crew. Directed by Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm), the film looks to be full of soaring music, broad emotional narratives, and white-knuckle dramatic setpieces. So, basically a Disney movie. It also might be good? Come January 29, we’ll have our answer.
