It’s Die Hard with a Segway when Paul Blart gets recut as an action movie
As far as comedy films go, Paul Blart: Mall Cop is already pretty dramatic. It’s about criminals taking over a mall and the one mustachioed, Segway-riding security guard who can stop them, but it’s still somehow even less funny than that makes it sound. Perhaps the problem, then, isn’t that Paul Blart wasn’t funny enough to be a good comedy, but that it shouldn’t have been a comedy in the first place. It already has the makings of a standard Die Hard plot, so maybe director Steve Carr should’ve just leaned into that and made a serious action flick that just happens to star Kevin James instead.
Thankfully, CineFix’s Trailer Mix video series is here to show us what that would’ve been like, and the results are surprisingly good. Well, more like comparatively good, as it’s not really much of a step up from the real Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but at least it’s an entertaining experiment. Kevin James as an action hero on a Segway is just too hard to swallow now matter how dramatic the trailer is.
