It’s nonsense word day, so here’s 9 minutes of Def Leppard’s “Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen”
The world that went peacefully to bed early last night woke up to a gibberish-filled climate, as Donald J. Trump’s now-famous unfinished tweet contained the non-word “covfefe.” (He eventually woke up, recovered, deleted the tweet, and is ready to melt the Earth again.) But even before covfefe, there was another nonsense phrase already making the rounds: a nine-minute loop of “Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen,” the nonsensical, vaguely German four words that kick off the 1983 Def Leppard classic “Rock Of Ages.” This pointless exercise was created by YouTuber CosbyDawg91, who also has posted nine-minute videos of DMX saying “Blah Blah” and Captain Falcon saying “Pawnch,” over and over and over.
The “Gunter Glieben Glauchen Globen” loop requires a special kind of stamina, however, especially as it maddeningly never kicks into the cowbell that leads us to one of the greatest “rock for rock’s sake” anthems. A fun game might be to see how long you can last while listening to it before aural hallucinating (we made it all the way to 26 seconds without cracking). Or a drinking game where the first person who screams to turn it off takes a shot. Why, the possibilities are endless. But at some point, you’ll just have to give up and succumb to this anyway:
