It’s Rumor Time: Daisy Ridley might star in the Tomb Raider reboot

Of all the young actors who pulled off star-making turns in The Force Awakens (John Boyega, the tiny mouse that controls BB-8, Greg Grunberg), it looks like Daisy Ridley is going to be the one who gets to claim the title of “New Chris Pratt.” In other words, her name is going to be attached to every single high-profile genre project in development, and rumors about her starring in things are going to pop up every few months. It’s fitting, then, given the many times Chris Pratt has been rumored to be starring in an Indiana Jones reboot, that the first hot rumor about Ridley is that she might star as the very Indiana Jones-like Lara Croft in a reboot of the Tomb Raider movie series.

Deadline says Ridley is “one of a number of actresses” being considered for the part, but that whole Star Wars thing and this Instagram video probably give her a pretty big advantage. Apparently, “conversations have taken place,” but the project is “still very early” and “there have been no official negotiations” yet. This is definitely not a sure thing, in other words, but getting Ridley attached would probably go a long way toward getting people interested in more Tomb Raider movies.

The last we heard of this reboot was back in November, when Warner Bros. reportedly hired Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug to direct it. However, Deadline‘s report doesn’t mention Uthaug, so it’s unclear if he’s still attached.
