It’s Rumor Time: Daniel Craig’s weighing a $150 million offer for two more Bond films
It’s well known around these parts that Daniel Craig isn’t exactly keen on doing another Bond film, which is is to say that he has hardly the fucks to give anymore. After making four Bond movies, the actor can barely rouse the necessary fuck-giving to chime in on the great debate of who should succeed him in the role, let alone don a bespoke suit for the umpteenth time. This is, of course, a big disappointment to anyone who’s a fan of his lonely, slightly less sexist iteration of 007. Things seemed well and truly lost back in May, when rumors began to circulate that Craig had turned down a nearly $100 million offer to drink shaken-not-stirred martinis in two more occasions. If a nine-figure payday couldn’t inspire Craig to muster the tolerance to zip around in luxury cars and woo beautiful women, then perhaps blond Bond had truly retired.
But don’t sign up Idris Elba for the iconic role just yet (though that’s something that needs to happen, and soon), because Radar claims that Craig has been offered $150 million to return to the Bond franchise. A source tells the publication that Sony is “desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor.” This same source claims that with Sony getting ready to renew the distribution rights, the studio needs Craig to steward the franchise a little while longer, at least until his successor can be found.
Sony hasn’t officially commented on the rumor, and neither has Craig. That’s hardly surprising, though, because if he can’t bring himself to give a shit about the future of the franchise, he certainly can’t be bothered to weigh in on every rumor surrounding it. For now, it looks like the studio is trying to beat Craig at his own game—if it can offer him enough money to not worry about ever working again, it might be able to get him to care about Bond again.
