It’s Rumor Time: Here’s why Marvel’s Inhumans is shooting in Hawaii
[Warning: This post contains possible plot points for the first episode of the Inhumans TV show, albeit in an extremely generic way that doesn’t really count as a spoiler, we don’t think.]
Lately, most of the news surrounding the upcoming TV iteration of Marvel’s Inhumans has involved casting announcements, like the almost-too-perfect naming of Iwan Rheon (Game Of Thrones’ famous asshole Ramsay Bolton) to play egomaniac villain Maximus The Mad, Hell On Wheels’ Anson Mount as lnhuman King (and brother to Maximus) Black Bolt, and Ballers’ Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, a.k.a. Medusalith Amaquelin Boltagon, because Marvel sometimes loves to give characters really stupid names. But when we reported back in February that the show was filming in Hawaii, it seemed like an odd choice, given the home base for the Inhuman royal family was usually Attilan—a city most often located on the moon and never on Hawaii. But now, a synopsis posted on Spoiler TV might have given a partial explanation for why America’s good-looking youngest state (who lives far enough away to regularly pretend they aren’t related to us) is the new Inhuman home:
After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.
So the military coup thing makes sense, given that’s the sort of mischief Maximus is always up to, and escaping to Earth is equally plausible. But why Hawaii, specifically? Surely property taxes in Alabama would be much more affordable, and far more off-the-grid. Still, it does tease “surprising interactions with the lush world” around them, so maybe they find a previously unknown plant that can cure illness, à la the subpar Sean Connery movie Medicine Man. Regardless, we like the idea of the series kicking off on an exciting note of them already being on the run, even if this still doesn’t answer the pressing question of who is going to play the giant teleporting dog. The show will have a two-hour premiere on IMAX screens Labor Day weekend, then debut on ABC September 26, 2017.
