It’s Rumor Time: That whole Fast 8 feud might really be about WrestleMania
Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson broke all of our hearts when he suggested that one of his Fast 8 co-stars was a “candy ass.” As the days went on, it became clear that Vin Diesel—Mr. Furious himself—was the candy ass, but Johnson eventually backed down and declared that he and his co-stars actually get along great and are all a family. That seemed like the end of it, but then Diesel said that Johnson’s role in Fast Five was originally written for the decidedly un-Rock-like Tommy Lee Jones, which seemed like it could’ve been a burn, but we’re not sure.
Now, though, another wrinkle has popped up in this ongoing-ish feud. According to Life & Style, an unnamed “insider” says the whole thing is “a huge prank” that’s “all for publicity.” Supposedly, Johnson told Diesel to “amp up the drama between them” so they could eventually turn it into a WrestleMania fight and promote Fast 8. Uproxx is totally on board with this story, but the article does admit that the idea of everybody working on the film keeping quiet about this seems strange, as does the necessity of Fast 8 using WrestleMania for promotion in the first place.
So, on the one hand, the feud being fake would be a little frustrating after all of the tears we’ve shed over it, but it would be nice to know that all of the Fast 8 people really are friends. We’re not sure how to feel about this.
