It’s time to fall in love with Jane The Virgin all over again

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Monday, October 12. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

Jane The Virgin (The CW, 9 p.m.): The wait is finally over. Jane The Virgin returns to make Monday nights fun again. Well, Jane’s back, but the baby’s still missing. But in the season two premiere, Jane learns Mateo Gloriano Rogelio Solano Villanueva has been kidnapped, and Sin Ros(e)tro demands ransom for the poor, innocent baby who was born into all of this messy telenovela drama. Meanwhile, Petra’s still hanging onto some Rafael sperm that she just can’t quite decide what to do with. We’re guessing she doesn’t just throw it away, because that would be too uncomplicated. Welcome back, Petra! Welcome back, Jane The Virgin! Welcome back, Golden Globe-winner Gina Rodriguez! Welcome back, supremely underrated character Luisa Alver!

Also noted

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (The CW, 8 p.m.): Remember last fall when people pre-judged Jane The Virgin because of its title and it was super hard for you to convince your friends and family that it really—no really—is a super great show that they should all be tuning in for? The same is probably going to happen for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which, despite its perhaps alarming title—already shows a lot of promise in its pilot. Oh, and it’s a musical! Allison Shoemaker will bring you TV Club coverage of the show every week.

Fargo (FX, 10 p.m.): Fargo returns for its second season tonight, and John Teti will be covering the new season for TV Club.

Minority Report (Fox, 9 p.m.): This week marks the very last TV Club review of Minority Report, which the show should have seen coming.

Regular coverage

WWE Monday Night Raw (USA, 8 p.m.)

Gotham (Fox, 8 p.m.)

Life In Pieces (CBS, 8:30 p.m.)

Blindspot (NBC, 10 pm.)

What else is on?

The Voice (NBC, 8 p.m.): With the Blind Auditions finally over, it’s time for the Battles to begin. Brad Paisley, John Fogerty, Missy Elliott (!!!), and Selena Gomez all drop by to advise.

Scorpion (CBS, 9 p.m.): What do you do if you find yourself trapped in a submarine and oxygen is dwindling and the possibility of self-destruction after an explosion sends the sub to the bottom of the ocean? Guess you’ll have to watch Scorpion to find out.

Switched At Birth (ABC Family, 8 p.m.): John and Kathryn explore new ways to make an extra buck, and Toby and Lily prepare to become parents, presumably taking many precautions to ensure that their future child is not switched at birth. Bay considers whether or not she’s ready for a real relationship with Garrett.

Awkward (MTV, 9 p.m.): Jenna has something she wants to tell Matty, and she’ll either awkwardly blurt it out in the first five seconds of the episode or spend the entire episode hemming and hawing before awkwardly blurting it out in the last five seconds. Those are the only two ways Jenna knows how to do things.

Faking It (MTV, 9:30 p.m.): Prom becomes mandatory at Hester, and everyone is scrambling for a date, which is, you know, the last thing anyone wants to have to worry about when they’re still struggling with figuring out their sexual identity.

Castle (ABC, 10 p.m.): One of Castle’s heroes is killed, and Castle is all “hey, I need to be the one to crack this, okay? He was my hero!”

Independence Day (AMC, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.): Back-to-back airings of Independence Day? Sure, AMC! Why not?

Orphan (Syfy, 9 p.m.): This movie really gives orphans a bad name. But Vera Farmiga is in it!

It’s Monday night, so there is football

Steelers at Chargers (ESPN, 8:15 p.m.)

In case you missed it

The Affair: Did you watch last night’s episode of The Affair? Go see what Carrie Raisler has to say about it.
