It sucks that Mandy 2 probably won't happen, because it sounds totally kick-ass

Panos Cosmatos’ blood-soaked Nicolas Cage feature Mandy was a minor hit earlier this year, finally giving horror audiences something approximating the sheer madness fest that so many lesser Cage B-movies have failed to deliver. But while Cosmatos’ follow-up to Beyond The Black Rainbow may have finally given people the chance to watch the star of National Treasure decapitate demon bikers with a battle axe, it’s always possible that that’s a particular thirst that can never be entirely slaked. That yearning isn’t likely to be helped by an interview Cosmatos recently gave to IndieWire, in which he described a version of a Mandy 2 that a) sounds exceedingly kick-ass, and b) almost certainly won’t actually happen.

“People have asked me about it,” Cosmatos said when asked about the possibility of a follow-up film “I don’t know if I’m a sequels kind of person. I prefer each film to have its own unique identity.” Still, he said that he did envision at least one alternate scenario when he was writing the original film: “When I was writing the film, to amuse myself, I imagined a sequel that took place with Red Miller fighting Nazi punks in a bombed-out city. I don’t know if that would ever happen, but it’s a fun thought.”

That is a fun thought, even if it’s consigned to live only in Cosmatos’s imaginations—and, now, our own.
