It's 3 p.m., let's watch Harrison Ford be in a "bubble of giddiness" with David Letterman

It’s 3 p.m.! Let The A.V. Club briefly make use of the waning hours of your productivity with some pop culture ephemera pulled from the depths of YouTube.

With the real Han Solo dead and the new guy taking over as young Han Solo, Harrison Ford is inching closer and closer to his lifelong dream of never having to speak to anyone in public ever again. Luckily, we can still go back and remember the good times, like when Harrison Ford gave an interview to David Letterman that somehow veered wildly between being a friendly chat between two old buddies, an odd series of questions that neither of them seem to enjoy, and Letterman implying that the movie Ford is plugging—2006's Firewall—is pretty dull except for one good scene.

It’s telling that one of the biggest laughs from the audience comes from Letterman saying that he and Ford are “two peas in a pod,” which is exactly where the delightfully weird energy of the segment comes from. Letterman has always seemed like he’s kind of sick of the conventions of talk show interviews, and Ford presents himself as a surly bastard at all times even when he’s being charming, so putting them together is like watching a pair of guys who simultaneously enjoy talking to each other but don’t like talking in general. By the end, when Ford promises to call Letterman so they can hang out sometime, it’s very obvious that no such call is ever going to happen.
