It's Rumor Time: Rihanna and Donald Glover may be filming something in Cuba with Hiro Murai
It looks like Rihanna and Donald Glover are working together on a secret project, but thanks to the fact that they’re both very famous, it might not be as secret as they hoped. The two of them were spotted in Cuba recently, and according to people on Twitter, sources in Cuba claimed that they’re shooting scenes for an upcoming movie called Guava Island—though that could just be a working title or a codename, since it is kind of weird.
Rihanna fan page Fenty Stats then came back with another rumor, saying that Guava Island is actually a music video because it’s being directed by This Is America’s Hiro Murai:
However, that evidence isn’t as clear-cut as it seems, because Murai has been directing a whole lot of TV over the last few years. He’s directed episodes of Legion and HBO’s Barry, not to mention almost every episode of Donald Glover’s Atlanta. Another Rihanna fan account says that the movie will be a musical featuring Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie (along with Glover and Rihanna), with locations including a textile factory:
A series of set photos back this up, but it still doesn’t tell us if it’s a movie, a music video, or—to throw out another theory—an episode of a TV show.
Here’s another wrinkle: Rihanna just announced earlier this week that Glover (as Childish Gambino) will be appearing at her Diamond Ball event in New York in September, which would be a good opportunity to announce a new track and music video featuring Donald Glover. On the other hand, if they’re filming a movie together, Rihanna would have plenty of chances to ask her new movie buddy Donald Glover to appear at her big event. On a third hand, they could’ve just been hanging out in Cuba with Hiro Murai and the whole Guava Island thing isn’t real at all.
All we can say is that life is full of mysteries, and the only people who can say anything definitive about anything are Donald Glover and Rihanna.
