J.J. Abrams’ God Particle will be another Cloverfield movie
According to The Wrap, the next movie in J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield anthology has been right under our noses. The publication is reporting that God Particle, a space-set film starring David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, is indeed part of Abrams’ loosely connected universe. God Particle—like 10 Cloverfield Lane before it—has been in the works for a long time, with director Julius Onah getting attached way back in 2012. Presumably, this is another situation in which an original sci-fi story will benefit, at least marketing-wise, from being lumped in as part of a franchise. What’s still unclear is whether it will retain its title or be renamed something like God Cloverfield Particle.
The film—which also features Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl, and Chris O’Dowd—concerns astronauts who find themselves in an “altered reality” after making a “shocking discovery.” Does that “discovery” have anything to do with monsters? Perhaps. It’s set to be released February 24—right around the same time 10 Cloverfield Lane hit in 2016. The Wrap’s source notes that Abrams and Paramount now want a new Cloverfield film every year.
