J.J. Abrams reteams with Lost writer for Alcatraz drama

Deadline reports that J.J. Abrams has reteamed with Lost executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff to shop her drama spec script for a series set on Alcatraz, the somewhat-less-than-mysterious island that once housed the nation’s most famous prison. As with anything Abrams does, details on the project are being kept under tight wraps, so it’s not clear yet whether the show would take place during the era when Alcatraz was still home to criminals like Al Capone and “Machine Gun” Kelly, or in its more modern incarnation as a national park and home to wildlife like the California slender salamander. (Or maybe the twist is that, like, the rest of the world is really the prison, and the people on Alcatraz are the only ones who are truly free?)
