J.K. Rowling announces first adult, presumably wizarding-free, novel

When the Harry Potter series reached its conclusion with 2007’s Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, fans wondered what writer J.K. Rowling would do next. Would she continue to work in the universe of the Potter books? Posthumously out more of her characters? Take up residence somewhere in The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter and just watch the crowds file by each day as she slowly lost her grip on her own sanity? Rowling has now answered the question with a big “None of the above,” announcing, as The Book Seller and other sources have revealed, that she’ll publish her first adult novel via Little, Brown. Details are… sketchy, with Rowling revealing little other than the book will be “very different.” So let the wild speculation begin! Our money’s on Rowling taking a page from Judy Blume’s first foray into adult fiction, the 1978 novel Wifey, and turning out the tale of a bored housewife’s erotic adventures but, you know, with some spellcasting thrown in for old times’ sake.
