Ja Rule headed to prison for two years

Rapper Ja Rule will be sentenced to two years in prison on Friday stemming from a 2007 arrest for having a loaded semiautomatic weapon and marijuana in his car—something police discovered the same night they busted Lil Wayne for his own gun and marijuana possession charges, after the two performed together on a Manhattan stage. Truly, it was the night that hip-hop’s innocence died. (Wayne, of course, recently completed serving eight months of his one-year sentence in Rikers.) Two years is actually something of a plea bargain, seeing as Ja Rule faced up to four years, but it still complicates plans for the release of Ja Rule’s upcoming Renaissance Project and his participation in next year’s Summerbeatz tour in Australia. On a positive note, we’re all talking about Ja Rule again.
