Jacob Tremblay summons The Predator in its first teaser trailer
The teaser trailer for Shake Black and Fred Dekker’s sort-of-reboot, sort-of-sequel The Predator—a press release from the studio calls it a “reinvention”—has crash-landed on YouTube. The first footage from the film was unveiled at this year’s CinemaCon in late April, confirming that The Predator takes place between the events of Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010).
The trailer opens with the always adorable Jacob Tremblay, innocently playing with some alien technology he finds in a mysterious cardboard box in his basement. How very Spielbergian. Except he’s not about to meet a best friend with a glowing index finger or a magical girl with a buzz cut—he’s accidentally summoned a race of alien super-predators, newly upgraded with the DNA of the various species they’ve been slaughtering across the galaxy. Nice work, kid.
Here’s the official description, via 20th Century Fox: “When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.” Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski round out the cast. The Predator stalks theaters worldwide on September 14.
