Jada Pinkett Smith will be one of the main villains of Gotham
No stranger to helping to foster younger versions of long-running franchises through her work on Jaden and Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith has joined the cast of Gotham, Fox’s TV series exploring the Batman universe from a fresh perspective unimpeded by Batman. Pinkett Smith will play “Fish Mooney,” the “imposing, hotheaded, and notoriously sadistic gangster boss” previously mentioned as the employer of a young Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the Penguin, whose proximity to someone named “Fish” counts as his only recognizable relation to the Penguin character so far. The network also describes Fish as having “street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book”—which we’re just going to assume is a stealth hint that Pinkett Smith’s nu-metal band, Wicked Wisdom, will also be on the show, perhaps terrorizing Ben McKenzie’s young Jim Gordon and the city of Gotham with their uncompromising nu-metal sound, because at this point why not.
