Jake Gyllenhaal and Antoine Fuqua to make drug smuggling drama

According to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal will appear in director Antoine Fuqua’s The Man Who Made It Snow, a movie about real-life drug smuggler Max Mermelstein—a man who, as Variety notes, “transformed a small mom-and-pop drug organization into a billion-dollar enterprise known as the Medellin Cartel.” Gyllenhaal and Fuqua recently worked together on Southpaw, a boxing movie that was originally set up in 2010 as a starring vehicle for Eminem and would’ve been a “metaphorical” sequel to 8-Mile. We don’t know who Gyllenhaal will be playing in The Man Who Made It Snow, but given the fact that the real Mermelstein looks so much like him that he wouldn’t even need to go through any kind of Nightcrawler-esque transformation for it, we assume that’s who he’s playing. Also, though Variety‘s quick synopsis doesn’t mention this, Mermelstein later became a successful informant for the U.S. government, so this won’t just be Breaking Bad: The Movie.
