Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds find terrifying new Life in this trailer

What happens when two Hollywood hunks—in this case, Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal—end up on a the International Space Station with a malevolent alien? The trailer for Life presumes you’ll want to find out. (It doesn’t look good.) Gyllenhaal appears to be the quiet, potentially menacing astronaut, while Reynolds assumes his natural role as the wisecracking member of the crew. That’s fitting since the screenplay comes from Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who seem to have an ample supply of bon mots for the actor. Ultimately, this looks like it takes itself far more seriously than that superhero flick. After all, it uses John F. Kennedy’s moon speech to underscore the promo. Mission: Impossible’s Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada are also on board. Life is due out May 26, 2017.
