Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany grow Stronger in David Gordon Green’s latest

Last year’s Patriot’s Day took a broad look at the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing, but, based on the first trailer, Stronger—which tackles the same subject—looks like it’s seeking to tell a more personal story. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bauman, who was the subject of one of the most famous photos from the day, and charts his recovery process and his relationship with then-girlfriend Erin Hurley (Tatiana Maslany). (The real-life Bauman and Hurley got married and then announced they were divorcing earlier this year.) David Gordon Green—whose oeuvre is impossible to pin down—directs. Stronger is due out September 22.
