Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. get another chance to be friends in a new movie
The world was forever robbed of the burgeoning Jake Johnson/Damon Wayans Jr. chemistry, when an unexpected renewal for Happy Endings saw the latter written out of New Girl post-pilot, and Johnson was forced to make out with Zooey Deschanel instead. But now the movies have come along to right TV’s wrongs with Let’s Be Cops, based on a pitch from Luke Greenfield—the director of movies like Something Borrowed, The Girl Next Door, and Rob Schneider’s The Animal, whose Wikipedia “Career” entry is one of the saddest you’ll ever read. Ignoring Greenfield’s many missteps for the moment and focusing only Wayans and Johnson, the comedy will find them playing two best friends who get their kicks by pretending to be police, “but when they unknowingly mess with a real mobster, the game gets real.” Okay, that also sounds awful. But Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson, reunited! Jake Johnson, pretending to be a cop again! The rampant crime of our inner cities, alleviated with comical mishaps!
