Someday, the world will have to figure out why so many YouTube stars and social media celebrities turn out to be assholes, but until then, all we can do is hope they’ll learn from their mistakes or just go away for a while and stop bothering the rest of us. Jake Paul is the latest internet person who may have to decide which road to take soon, as shortly after making an ass of himself during a local TV interview about how much his neighbors hate him and his ridiculous antics, he announced that he’s leaving his Disney Channel series Bizaardvark. In a statement posted on Twitter (and clearly written in the iPhone “Notes” app, like all good public statements), Paul suggested that he has “outgrown the channel” and that he’d rather focus on his “personal brand.”
Of course, the fact that this is coming so soon after Paul was in the news for looking like an asshole does seem suspicious, so it’s possible that this wasn’t just his decision. Paul’s statement even hints at this, noting that he, his team, and Disney Channel all agreed that it was time for him to leave the show, so at the very least, the network agrees that he has “outgrown” it.
