James Cameron deigns to select cowriters for three Avatar sequels
There were always going to be Avatar sequels. The question was just when billionaire Lord Of The Seas James Cameron would get around to actually producing more stories about Pandora, between conquering the ocean and possibly shooting non-Avatar movies. As is the case with many blockbuster franchises, the number of planned films keeps on expanding, but now there’s some actual production news. The first Avatar sequel is scheduled for December 2016, with two subsequent films planned for the following two Decembers.
Cameron will also have screenplay collaborators; he’s hired Josh Friedman—who incidentally created and ran The Sarah Connor Chronicles—Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages, a draft of Armageddon) to bask in the glow of the master while shepherding the sequels to fruition.
All three films will shoot concurrently beginning next year, so Sam Worthington better keep his schedule open and run away from any more Clash Of The Titans sequels or he’ll incur the wrath of James Cameron.
