James Franco and Seth Rogen made an MTV VMAs special to promote their assassination comedy

James Franco and Seth Rogen will promote their upcoming comedy/international incident The Interview this weekend by doing an in-character interview special, set to air before MTV’s Video Music Awards. The special will be presented as an episode of the fictional Skylark Tonight, hosted by Franco’s talk show host and would-be assassin Dave Skylark, who is a comically terrible interviewer in the old Alan Partridge mold.

To tie the special into the VMAs, Skylark will be interviewing pop stars Iggy Azalea, Jason Derulo, and Nicki Minajmasters all of lighthearted banter and sketch comedywith questions like, “Do you know Arnold Schwarzenegger?” He’ll also presumably do some behind-the-scenes joking/murder planning with Rogen’s producer character, Aaron Rapoport.

So far, the North Korean government hasn’t issued any statements about whether it will retaliate against the special by launching its own short preview of war to promote the one it’ll be holding in December, when the movie about assassinating their leader is released.

The Interview special will air on MTV at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday, August 24th.
