James Mangold is already eyeing a Logan spin-off
With his Old Man Logan tale about to hit theaters, James Mangold is already talking spin-off. The Logan director isn’t merely settling for a secondary character in the film to stave off the Wolverine withdrawal symptoms, what with this being Hugh Jackman’s swan song in the role. It seems Mangold was especially impressed by Dafne Keen, who plays the young X-23 opposite Old Man Logan and Older Professor X (Patrick Stewart, who, by the way, is not giving up on X-Men movies). As he tells We Got This Covered, Keen’s performance could serve as a bridge to a new branch of films about the young mutant, films he would like to direct.
I think Dafne is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character and that’s certainly something I’d be involved in. For me that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would put and the idea about Charles ailing.
With Fox having shaken off any doubt about the Western feel of Logan, Mangold could very well get the green light sooner than later.
