James Wan to produce the Resident Evil movie reboot
Over the weekend, we reported that German production company Constantin Film was planning to reboot the Resident Evil movie series, with that news coming just a few months after the release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Now, Deadline has a few more details about that reboot, and it sounds like Constantin might be serious about taking the series back to its horror roots. That’s because Saw and The Conjuring director James Wan has signed on as a producer, so he should be able to lend some of his horror cred to this series.
Deadline also says that the new movie will have “an entirely new cast,” and the script will be written by newcomer Greg Russo. We don’t know if it will go back to the basic plot of the Resident Evil video games—something the old movies dipped into at random—but as long as there are zombies and evil corporations creating zombies, that’ll probably be close enough to Resident Evil for some people.
