Jamie Foxx to play presumably badass Little John in Robin Hood: Origins

Competing Robin Hood movies are a thing that is happening, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Sure, a couple of them might get stuck in development hell, but with four in development last time we checked, odds are good that at least two will actually make it to theaters. Things are looking especially good for Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins, which announced today that it has cast its Little John, Robin Hood’s second-in-command.

That role will be filled by Jamie Foxx, who, according to Deadline, will pay the part “in the mold of [his] muscular turns” in films like Django Unchained and White House Down. That’s in keeping with the film’s purported “dark and gritty“ tone, which will presumably see the Merry Men re-branded as crossbow-wielding ninjas. Foxx will star alongside Kingsman’s Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, and The Knick’s Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. The odds of him rapping at some point in the film are still 50/50, because Hollywood is terrible like that.
