Jamie Lee Curtis announces peace treaty with Marvel

It’s a base human instinct to enjoy when someone’s throwing a little shade. Marvel Studios is the biggest game in town, so it can certainly withstand a little heat from the haters. But Jamie Lee Curtis no longer wants to indulge in her baser instincts. After mischievously joking at San Diego Comic-Con that Marvel’s current phase is “Bad,” she has now taken public accountability for talking mad shit.

Posting on Instagram alongside a video of her Borderlands co-star Kevin Hart praising her leadership, Curtis wrote, “If I’m a leader, then a leader shouldn’t talk shit about other collaborative art form creators. My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.”

Comic-Con was not the first time Curtis put the MCU in her crosshairs. During the run of Everything Everywhere All At Once, she had no qualms comparing her film’s multiversal adventure to Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and finding Doctor Strange lacking. “Maybe I felt like stirring up a little friendly competition,” she said in a 2022 People interview about the two films coming out around the same time. “And you can’t have a company called Marvel without somebody making fun of it and calling it Marvel-less. I mean, I think we out-marveled Marvel.” (This proved prophetic when Curtis won the Oscar for EEAAO over Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.) But even then, she noted that “I’m a collaborating artist. I work with a lot of people on a lot of different things, and if the role was interesting and if I could bring what I do to it, of course I would [work with Marvel]. What am I going to do, say no? Of course!”

And so marks the end of Curtis’ antagonistic Marvel phase. We had a good run for a bit there! While we can all learn a lesson from Curtis’ wisdom about biting our tongues, we will still miss getting a nice dose of smack talk every once in a while.
