Janet Jackson announces both a new album and a new label

Janet Jackson has announced a new album due out sometime this fall. The as-yet-untitled LP is her first since 2008’s Discipline, as well as since her brother Michael’s 2009 death. The LP is also the first release on Jackson’s newly formed record label, Rhythm Nation. So far, no one else is signed to Rhythm Nation—that we know of, at least—but Jackson says the label will partner with “both new and established recording artists,” and has already teamed with BMG for distribution.

So far, there’s little sense about what Jackson’s new record will sound like, but if the backing music in her recent “Announcement” video is any hint, it could be a little spacey, a little funky, and very modern.
