January Jones joins cast of X-Men: First Class
According to Deadline, X-Men: First Class has found its latest recruit in Mad Men’s acting placebo January Jones. She’ll play AntiMagneto, a new mutant whose blank inertia has the power to make everyone around her seem more charismatic Emma Frost, a.k.a. the White Queen, an ambitious, snooty telepath of questionable loyalty whose diamond-like skin reflects the iciness of her interior. If Jones actually had to audition for this role, she should fire her agent.
This news scuttles earlier reports that Alice Eve had been in talks to play Emma Frost; in retrospect, she never had a shot. Other recent signees to add to your X-Men: First Class fantasy casting league: Bill Milner will play the young Magneto, Morgan Lily will play the “young Raven” (by which we assume they mean Mystique), Jason Flemyng will play Nightcrawler’s father Azazel, and most interesting of all, rock star spawn Zoe Kravitz will play Angel. Her presence would seem to indicate that the Angel in First Class is not the original version of Angel (most recently portrayed by Ben Foster), but rather the more recent, insect-like Angel Salvadore of the New X-Men—which, given that character’s close relationship to Emma Frost, makes total sense. It remains to be seen whether this film version of Angel will also barf acid, but you know, why else include her? In fact, it's safe to say that if this film does not feature at least one quality "Zoe Kravitz barfs acid" scene, it will be regarded as a creative failure.
