In 2012 Canadian duo Japandroids released Celebration Rock, an album that The A.V. Club named its second favorite album of 2012, just behind Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange. Much like Ocean, Japandroids have remained relatively silent in the years following Celebration Rock, to the point where it’s become a bit of a joke. But it looks like that will all change sometime in 2017, when the band releases Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, its first album for Anti Records and third overall. Aside from a short teaser trailer posted today details are scant, but it suggests that 2017 won’t be lacking in songs featuring anthemic “Whoa-oh”s.
