Jason Mitchell heads Straight Outta Compton, straight to Skull Island

Universal’s King Kong origin story, Kong: Skull Island, is apparently turning into a Straight Outta Compton reunion party, with Jason Mitchell, who played Eazy-E in F. Gary Gray’s N.W.A. biopic, signing on for a role in the film. He’ll be joining a cast that includes Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, and his Compton co-star Corey Hawkins, who starred as Dr. Dre in the recent box office success.

Mitchell has been cast in the film, which is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, from a script by Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly, as a pilot—never the safest of roles in a King Kong-adjacent airspace. Skull Island is being planned for a March 10, 2017 release date, which means the producers still have.plenty of time to call an audible, get Aldis Hodge, Neil Brown, Jr., and Ice Cube-spawn O’Shea Jackson, Jr., on the phone, and turn this thing into the “N.W.A. battles dinosaurs” movie the world has been waiting so very long to see.
