Jason Momoa's Aquaman will splash around in The Lego Movie 2

Jason Momoa’s bearded, burly, box-office busting take on Aquaman has now found yet another place to usurp his orange-shirted, green-pantsed ’70s cartoon counterpart, with The Lego Movie 2 announcing today that Momoa will be reprising his role as well-regarded fish man Arthur Curry in the upcoming animated feature.

To add insult to decades worth of injury, the video announcing Momoa’s arrival even sees his long-haired version of the character using the older-style Aquaman as a surfboard (although he seems to be enjoying it, which feels like a very particular flavor of fan-fiction bait that we absolutely refuse to Google). Momoa is the second member of Warner Bros.’ increasingly fractured DC Cinematic Universe to lend their voice talents to the movie; Margot Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn (taking over from Jenny Slate, who played her in The Lego Batman Movie). The Superfriends-style Aquaman appeared in both the first Lego Movie, as well as Lego Batman, but never had any lines, presumably on account of the fact that no one had thought to try making him sexy yet.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part debuts in theaters on February 8, 2019.
