Jason Reitman signs up Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin for Labor Day

After a career built on black yet still lighthearted comic takes on depressing subjects like Big Tobacco propaganda, teen pregnancy, and downsizing, Jason Reitman will go even darker than usual with his next project. Reitman will follow up his recent reunion with Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody on Young Adult by directing Labor Day, an adaptation of the 2009 Joyce Maynard novel that will star Kate Winslet as a depressed single mom whose reclusive life with her 13-year-old son is shaken up when they take in an escaped convict, to be played by Josh Brolin. And here we would like to thank Jason Reitman for taking the title Labor Day before Garry Marshall could turn it into an ensemble romantic comedy.
