Jason Statham may play the guy who's initially annoyed by then learns to appreciate Melissa McCarthy

As reported over the summer, with Sandra Bullock proving resistant to the idea of a sequel to The Heat, Paul Feig has moved on to prepping a different comedy in which Melissa McCarthy is given firearms and told to just have fun with it. And now Feig seems to be closing in on the other important piece of that puzzle, circling Jason Statham to play a fellow spy and comedy straight man to McCarthy’s secret agent, Susan Cooper. Plot details are still unknown, but presumably McCarthy will do things in an unconventional way that initially rankles Statham, until eventually, her coarse, unfettered personality—and her ability to get results—earns his grudging respect and the most tender of headbutts. Then McCarthy and Statham really bond through a goofy choreographed dance.
