Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie are Sleeping With Other People in new rom-com trailer
Every once in a while, a romantic comedy comes along that just kind of gets everything right: the right stars, the right jokes, the right funny best friends. Sleeping With Other People is one of those movies. The film, which premiered at Sundance in January, casts Jason Sudeikis and Alison Brie as serial cheaters who reunite some dozen years after taking each other’s virginity in college. Rather than risk screwing up their renewed friendship, they decide to keep it platonic; apparently, neither has seen a rom-com before.
It sounds like standard date-night material, and the trailer above doesn’t necessarily assuage those concerns. But writer-director Leslye Headland, who made the promising Bachelorette, redeems a lot of the conventions she’s adhering to here, and she’s got a terrific supporting cast to lean on, with Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Jason Mantzoukas, Natasha Lyonne, and Andrea Savage all doing stellar work on the margins. Plus, it’s also legitimately sexy, with Headland staging some surprisingly frank, passionate love scenes—not something this genre tends to deliver on very often. Sleeping With Other People hits theaters in September. Don’t, uh, sleep on it.
