Jay-Z and Kanye West try a little car customization, pyrotechnics in the video for “Otis”

Watch The Throne stormed the digital gates this past Monday, dispelling any concerns that its slow crawl toward a release date (and subsequently delayed promotional tour) heralded half-baked, tossed-off results from two of hip-hop’s brightest stars. Rather, it would appear that Jay-Z and Kanye West reserved all their “just fucking around” energy for director Spike Jonze and his newly released video for the album’s “Otis.” The clip finds the MCs tearing ass in a customized-and-blow-torched Maybach, overseeing what may or may not be a test run for that aforementioned concert tour’s pyrotechnic display, and momentarily sharing the spotlight with Aziz Ansari, thereby fulfilling the “surprise cameo in a hip-hop video” requirement on the 30 Minutes Or Less star’s “rise to comedy prominence” checklist. Also, it turns out Shawn Carter is just as a good at lip-syncing to “Try A Little Tenderness” as Jon Cryer—though the crowded backseat of that Maybach indicates that Hova is the more effective faux-Otis Redding. That’s probably how he won over Beyoncé. [Vulture]
